Democracy Club

Hello,

We’ve survived the election season! Phew.

The May elections felt like a step forward for Democracy Club. We've explained why in our annual report — links below!

Also in this newsletter: we’re getting together to celebrate our efforts; we’re thinking about what’s next; and there’s an invitation to try some deliberative democracy.

Enjoy the summer, and hope to see some of you in Manchester,

Joe, Sym and Chris

📈 We’ve reviewed our year...

You can read our annual report here. Or check out the slideshow summary (comes with emojis and favourite biscuits). Or here it is in three bullet points:

  • For the 3 May local elections, we had polling location coverage for over 87% of the voting-age population;
  • Our data on 3 May elections, candidates and polling locations saw over 1.1m uses;
  • Beyond scheduled elections, we're now recording all by-elections, candidates and results.

🎟 ...join us in Manchester to discuss it!

Come learn about the history of democracy and then chat about its future in Manchester on Sat 23 June. We’re hoping for a tour of the People’s History Museum, there will be lunch, it’ll be grand. Sign up here, it’s free!

🔮 What’s next for Democracy Club?

May 2019 sees local elections in 250-ish local authorities — and there’s a chance we’ll see an early general election. And what about the next three to five years? Here’s a blog post with some ideas — let us know what you think!

🚗 Want to host some deliberative democracy?

Our friends at Talk Shop and Thinking Box are getting people talking about driverless cars. Talk Shop have a discussion kit that can be used by six people around the kitchen table or in larger events. Thinking Box sessions look like book groups, but with videos. They are both looking for people to organise sessions. More here!
